Trap-Jaw Ants

Nov 28, 2007: An ant's jaws aren't just for chewing and biting. Researchers have described the Trap-Jaw Ant's ability to use the snapping power of its jaws to propel itself away from danger at high speed. The rapid movement of the ant's mandibles have been recorded at speeds up to 145 miles per hour. The force of the closing jaws is enough to flip the ant backward and away from predators. The California Academy of Sciences has slow motion video of the ant acrobatics. The discovery is further evidence that structures in nature are mutable in function, and not fixed as creationists believe. (See Video)
Your Inner Fish

March, 3, 2008: Author, anatomist, and palaeontolgist, Neil Shubin, discusses his book, "Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of The Human Body", with science writer Carl Zimmer on Blogging Heads-TV. Shubin's prize discovery is the Tiktaalik fish fossil from the Canadian Arctic. With characteristics of a fish and a tetrapod, Tiktaalik is a true intermediate species between fish and terrestrial vertebrates. (Watch Video)
Ben Stein - Creationist Of The Month

I offically declare Ben Stein as May’s creationist of the month. He earns his position for his ignorance and sleazy behavior.

In Expelled: The Movie, Ben Stein attempts to draw a link between Charles Darwin and the Holocaust by misreading a quote from Darwin’s famous book The Descent Of Man. Scientific America Magazine explains with an article:

Biology Lecture Online

Biologist and author, Sean B. Carroll, who's books include "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" and "The Making of The Fittest", speaks at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. From the institute's "Holiday Lecture" series, the 2005 video is a history of Darwinism and an overview of the evidence supporting the science of evolutionary biology. Covering Charles Darwin's "big ideas", Carroll delves into the 'the survival of the fittest, 'natural selection', and, of course, DNA. (Watch Video)

"Creationism's Illogic Train"

an article by Mark Evans

Any train of thought offered on a scientific subject like evolution is hopefully rooted in logic, otherwise any conclusions reached may be erroneous. Logic is after all at the root of scientific investigation. Analogous to computer languages, it uses tentative words like “if”, “while”, “then”, and “when” etc. A computer program applies logic at each step: questions are asked, conditions are met, and interpretations of the data are made. But along such a path the direction may change because old data may be altered and new data may be gathered. The answer is always provisional since it is dependent on future steps in the process.
